Heriz rugs (also spelled Heris or Hariz) are one of the most popular and recognizable Persian village rugs. Woven in the mountainous region of Heriz near Tabriz in northwest Iran, they have been produced for over a century and are celebrated for their bold geometric designs, exceptional durability, and timeless rustic elegance. Known as one of the toughest Persian rugs — the combination of heavy wool and tight weaving makes them exceptionally long-lasting, even in high-traffic areas. Modern Heriz rugs are primarily woven in India and Pakistan by skilled artisans, with some finer qualities still coming from Iran and Turkey.
